Resolve
kakugo / かくご
Dictionary meaning
覚悟 (kakugo) means preparing oneself mentally for a serious matter or an unwelcome possibility. In Buddhist usage it can also refer to awakening to truth. Resolve is a useful English gloss, but the word includes readiness to face consequences.
Your intended symbolism
Your personal symbolism is separate from the dictionary meaning. Explain what you want this choice to express to a fluent Japanese reader and your artist.
Context & cautions
覚悟 is more than a general positive wish: it can suggest being prepared for difficulty or consequences.
Size & legibility: discuss with your artist
There is no universal minimum tattoo size based on stroke count. Ask your artist to check line weight, the gaps between strokes, placement, and how the lettering may age. Preview dimensions include transparent margins and are not a safe minimum size.

Naruto example: サクラの覚悟
The official Naruto Shippuden episode guide uses サクラの覚悟 as the title of episode 432. Here 覚悟 describes Sakura’s resolve in a difficult situation. It is an ordinary Japanese word used in the story, not the name of a supernatural technique.
